Tutorial 4 · 15 min read · Uses Xero + Zapier or Make, or your job app's review feature
Ask for Google reviews automatically
Happy customers will leave a Google review — if you ask at the right time and make it one tap. The best time is just after they've paid: the job's done and they're pleased.
What you'll need
- Your Google Business Profile review link (in Google Business Profile, choose 'Ask for reviews' to copy it)
- Xero or your job app
- A free Zapier or Make account
Step 1: Get your review link
Search your business name on Google while signed in, open your Business Profile and tap 'Ask for reviews'. Copy the short link and save it in your notes.
Step 2: Write the request
Ask AI for a short, warm message. One link, one ask.
Copy this prompt and fill in the [square brackets]:
Write a short text message (under 40 words, NZ English) thanking a customer for choosing [business] for their [job] and asking if they'd leave a quick Google review. Include this link: [link]. Friendly, no pressure, sign off [first name].
Step 3: Automate it
In Zapier or Make:
- Trigger: 'Invoice paid' in Xero (or 'Job completed' in your job app).
- Action: delay 1 day.
- Action: send the email or SMS to the customer's contact from the invoice.
- Test with a $1 invoice to yourself.
Step 4: Reply to every review
When reviews come in, reply to each one — see the next tutorial. It shows future customers you care.
