Jobber's AI Receptionist: can NZ and Aussie tradies use it?
If you've seen ads for Jobber's AI Receptionist, here's the short answer for New Zealand and Australia: not yet. Jobber's own help centre says Receptionist needs a Jobber phone number, and Jobber only offers those in the US, Canada and the UK. So even if you're on Jobber, you can't switch it on here right now, going by Jobber's help centre. Below is what it does, so you know what you're missing, and some options that do work here.

What you'll need
- Nothing to buy
- Five minutes
- Your phone's call log if you want to try the voicemail test (linked below)
⚠️ NOT AVAILABLE IN NZ OR AU RIGHT NOW, GOING BY JOBBER'S HELP CENTRE.
- Needs a Jobber phone number. Jobber says so even if you keep your own number.
- Jobber phone numbers: US, Canada and UK only. Jobber calls them dedicated phone numbers.
- Not in a free trial either. Jobber says dedicated numbers aren't available while you're on trial.
- So for NZ and AU: not available right now. That's our reading of Jobber's help pages. If you're keen, check with Jobber in case it's changed.
The short answer

What it does (where it's available)
Here's what Jobber says it does, so you can compare it with what's on offer here:
- Answers calls and texts 24/7
- Books visits using your online booking settings, takes requests, or takes a message
- Texts back callers who hang up before it starts talking, if you turn that on
- Passes urgent calls to you. You pick the trigger words (Jobber's example: "burst pipe"), and it either puts the call through or texts you
- Keeps a summary, full transcript and recording of each conversation
- Can greet known customers by name and have different greetings for business hours and after hours
- You can forward your existing number to it, but you still need the Jobber number first
- Plans: Jobber says it's included on its Plus plan and can be added on to "select plans". Jobber lists the price on its own website, in US dollars. We don't list prices, and it doesn't matter much if you can't get it here.
- Telling callers it's AI: Jobber says it encourages you to let callers know the phone is answered by AI, "but this isn't required". Our advice: always tell them. See AI receptionist or voicemail?
Tip: Jobber's demo lines are US and Canadian numbers (Jobber's feature page (opens in a new tab), checked 26 Oct 2026). Calling them from NZ or AU is an international call.
What to do instead
Missing calls is the real problem. Here are options that work here today (our advice):
- Start free. Set up a good voicemail and a missed-call text, then run our 2-week test: AI receptionist or voicemail?
- Already on ServiceM8? It has its own AI phone agent. See Set up the ServiceM8 AI Phone Agent.
- Calls coming in after hours? See after-hours enquiries and missed calls.
- Thinking of switching job apps just for an AI receptionist? Don't decide on one feature. See Compare job management apps.
Tip: Try the free option first: AI receptionist or voicemail? Run the 2-week test. Want a hand sorting your missed calls? Get set up.
⚠️ Be wary of anyone who says they can "unlock" Jobber's Receptionist in NZ or AU with an overseas number. Jobber's help centre only lists the US, Canada and UK, and your customers would be calling an overseas number.
